GODDEN JOHN THOMAS FORBES - [S2837] Forbes Advocate, Tue 19 Sep 1939 Page 2 OBITUARY.
Mr. John Godden
The death of a very old and highly
respected resident of the Forbes dis-
trict took place in "Brentwood" private
hospital shortly before midnight on
Friday, when there passed away Mr.
John Godden, aged 86, who has been
employed and resident at Warroo since
1886. Decensed had only been in fail-
ing health for six or seven weeks, and
his end came from natural causes after
he had been in hospital for 14 days.
With a young wife, the late Mr. God-
den came from Rockley 53 years ago
and took over the management of Back
Warroo for the late C. S. McPhillamy,
a position he retained till the cutting
up of the Warroo Estate among the
McPhillamy family about nine years
ago. The deceased had witnessed the
development of the district since its
pioneering days, and many were the
stories he could relate with regard to
the early settlers' fights with blacks,
bushfires and floods. He reared a fam-
ily of three sons, all highy respected
throughout the district, and in addi-
tion is survived by a sorrowing widow,
who is in her 77th year. The sons are
Messrs. James (Moora Moora), Charles
(Warroo), and Patrick (Warroo Stud
Farm).
The funeral took place to the Church
of England cemetery at Forbes on Sat-
urday afternoon and was largely at-
tended by Warroo and Bedgerabong
district residents. The service at the
graveside was performed by the Rev.
A. E. White, while Mr. A. G. Jones
had charge of the mortuary arrange-
ments. - [S48] Ancestry.co.uk, Collins Tree (Reliability: 1).
