Obituary
MRS. E. M. BENNETT
LOWOOD, Jan. 15.—The
death occurred suddenly at
her residence in Walters
Street, Lowood, on Monday
morning, of Mrs. Ethel
Mary Bennett at the age of
53 years.
She was the widow of the
late Mr. Tom Bennett, who
died at Lowood five years
ago.
The late Mrs. Bennett was
well known in Lowood. She
had recently been in a hos-
pital in Brisbane and after
returning much improved in
health, spent a fortnight's
holiday with friends at the
coast. On Sunday night she
became ill and she passed
away unexpectedly on Mon-
day morning following a
heart attack.
Born in Kempsey, New
South Wales, she was the
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. A. J. Clarke. She came
to Queensland 40 years ago
with her parents, and for
a time lived at Upper Yar-
raman. Her parents then
took over an hotel. At Lo-
wood the late Mrs. Bennett
met and married her hus-
band, who was a member of
one of the district's pioneer-
ing families. Since her mar-
riage she lived in Lowood
and the couple reared a
family of four daughters and
four sons. They are Mrs. J
R. Linnan (Brisbane),
Misses Clare (Ipswich), May
and Adeline (Lowood);
Messrs. William and John
(Brisbane), Lawrie and 12
years old Martin. There are
also five grandchildren.
Rev. Father Gleeson con-
ducted a Requiem Mass in
St Brenden's Roman Cath-
olic Church on Tuesday
morning, and later a service
before the funeral left the
church for the Tarampa
Catholic Cemetery at 2 p.m.
The funeral was largely at-
tended by friends and rela-
tives, some of whom had
travelled long distances.
