Nov. 3.—The death occurred in Brisbane early on Thursday morning of Mrs. Clarice Magdalene Clarke, widow of the late Mr. A. J. Clarke. Previously they were well known Lowood residents. The family came to Lowood from Yarraman about 28 years ago, and the late Mr. Clarke took over the licence of the Lowood Hotel, and their family of 12 children became widely known throughout the district. The late Mrs. Clarke, whose maiden name was Cavanagh, was born at Kempsey 70 years ago, and married Mr. Augustus James Clarke. The couple went to Yar- raman, and then came to Lowood. After selling the hotel the family went on to a farm near Lowood, and later to Gatton, where Mr. Clarke died 12 years ago. After the death of her husband the late Mrs. Clarke went to live with members of her family in Brisbane. One son, Constable Gus Clarke, died suddenly at Nanango about eight years ago. She leaves three sons, Messrs. Cecil (Yar- raman). Leo (Sydney), and Viv (Brisbane), and eight daughters, Mesdames G. Burns (Victoria). T. Bennett (Lowood). E. O'Calla- ghan (Brisbane), E. Shanahan (Brisbane). P. Harty (Brisbane). W. Clarke (Cairns). T. Darwin (Brisbane). and H. O'Donovan (Brisbane). There are 39 grand- children. The funeral left Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church.
